The documents, registrations and records to have ready before you approach the revenue authority, and the sequencing that avoids a second visit.
Registration is straightforward when the groundwork is done and frustrating when it is not. Most repeat visits are caused by a document that could have been prepared in advance.
Have these ready
- Certificate of incorporation and the company's constitutional documents.
- Identification for directors and, where required, shareholders.
- Proof of the business address you intend to register.
- Details of the bank account the business will operate through.
- A clear description of the trade, which determines several downstream obligations.
Sequence matters
Incorporation comes first, then tax registration, then any sector-specific licences. Attempting them in parallel usually means at least one application is submitted with a detail that later changes, and amending a registration takes longer than making it correctly the first time.
Set up your bookkeeping before the first transaction rather than after. Reconstructing the opening months from bank statements and memory is the single most common reason a first set of accounts costs more than it should.
